2. Anti-Inflammatory and Antibacterial Aids

Myrcene is an example of a terpene that has dual benefits, i.e. anti- inflammatory and anti-bacterial. Due to the presence of terpenes like myrcene, and some others like alpha-pinene (anti-inflammatory) and humulene(antibacterial), medical marijuana is used by several patients to alleviate pain and infections.

Limonene, a terpene, popular as a fat burner, is commonly found in lemony scented scents of medical marijuana. It is also commonly found in the rinds of citrus fruits such as grapefruit, lemon, and in particular oranges. Another terpene aiding weight loss is Humulene, which has been used in Chinese medicine for ages. This terpene is commonly found in cannabis sativa strains and Vietnamese coriander, and helps suppress appetite.

4. Sleep Aid

Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder and is experienced by many in their daily lives. Tossing and turning restlessly all night leaves you both physically and emotionally exhausted. The effect of insomnia could be as drastic as shortening your life expectancy. However, terpenes come to your aid in this regard also! The terpene scents that help with relaxation and cure insomnia are found in commonly known plants such as lavender, pepper and pine. Such terpene scents have been used for ages in herbal medicine. Matching the right sets of aroma and flavour profiles in a way that they complement or accentuate each other is what makes for a great pairing.
