Cannabinoid or CBD is the product many people have been using to alleviate various conditions, including chronic pain, anxiety, nausea, rheumatoid arthritis, schizophrenia, diabetes, PTSD, alcoholism, strokes and cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other ailments. If you haven’t already heard, Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive component of Cannabis that has a variety of therapeutic benefits. CBD is naturally occurring in the Hemp plant and according to the United States own government it supports the nutrition of aging bodies. Cannabinoid is found to have particular benefits as a neuroprotectant, for example in limiting neurological damage following stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
What is CBD oil?
CBD is a compound found in the cannabis/marijuana plant. It is one of numerous healing compounds found in the plant, called cannabinoids. Researchers have been doing many studies on the potential therapeutic uses of CBD Oil. Cannabinol or CBD is not full-fledged marijuana, it does not have a psychoactive component of Cannabis that has a variety of therapeutic uses. CBD oil is a cannabinoid derived from the cannabis plant. Marijuana contains both THC and CBD, but the different compounds have different effects. THC is known for the high it produces when the marijuana buds brake down using heat and are introduced to the body through smoking, vaping, infusing it into eatables, salves, and tinctures.
Is it Legal?
Yes, CBD is not Marijuana it is a product of the Hemp plant and is legal in all 50 states. CBD DOES NOT have THC, therefore it does not have a psychoactive component. So CBD does not change the state of mind of the person who uses it. However, it does cause significant positive changes in the body, and it has great medical benefits. CBD used medicinally is found in the least processed form of the cannabis plant, also known as hemp. Marijuana and Hemp come from the same plant, cannabis sativa, but they are different.
Will it help me?
All cannabinoids, including CBD, attach to certain receptors in the body to produce healing effects. The human body produces certain cannabinoids on its own. There are two CBD receptors in the body and researchers used to believe CBD acted on both, however now it seems to influence the body to use more of its own cannabinoids. CBD oil is taken orally, rubbed on the skin, and sometimes inhaled through vapor used to produce its effects.
CBD is a Natural pain relief and anti-inflammatory. People commonly use prescription or over-the-counter drugs to relieve pain and stiffness, including chronic pain, but CBD Oil offers a more natural way to lower your pain. Researchers believe the non-psychoactive compounds in marijuana, including CBD, could be a new treatment for chronic pain. Those of us who live with Chronic Pain know how effective it is in relieving pain without all the negative side effects. CBD is presently used for some conditions that cause chronic pain, like multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia.
We have all seen the videos on Facebook and the internet of seizure patients receiving a small dose of CBD that stops an impending seizure in its tracks. Research shows CBD Oil has anti-seizure properties and a low risk of side effects for people with epilepsy. The government however wants to do more research to understand how this works, while we watch children suffer terribly from insufficient access to medication that works and has virtually no side effects.
CBD Oil has been studied for its use as an anti-cancer agent. It appears to block cancer cells from spreading and invading an area in the body entirely. CBD Oil suppress’ the growth of cancer cells and promotes the death of these cells.
Researchers also note CBD Oil may help in cancer treatment due to its low toxicity levels.
Patients with chronic anxiety are often told to avoid cannabis, as THC can trigger or amplify anxiety and paranoia in some people. However, a study suggests CBD may help reduce anxiety felt by people with certain anxiety disorders.
The researchers point to studies showing that CBD may reduce anxiety behaviors in disorders like; post-traumatic stress disorder, general anxiety disorder, panic disorders, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. CBD Oil has not been shown to have any adverse side-effects to date, and the researchers want to study it as a potential treatment method.
Type 1 diabetes is caused by inflammation when the immune system attacks the cells of the pancreas. Recent research found CBD may ease inflammation in the pancreas in type 1 diabetes. This may be the first step in finding a CBD-based treatment for type 1 diabetes.
Alzheimer’s researchers found CBD did prevent the development of patients in the early stages of Alzheimer’s from losing their ability to recognize the faces of people they know. This is the first study showing that CBD has the potential to prevent Alzheimer’s symptoms.
On a personal note:
I wrote this when I lived in a non-legal state and could not get medical marijuana, I have since moved to a legal state. (UPDATE BELOW) CBD worked for me and I am forever grateful I found it. For me it turned out to be the answer I was looking for. I haven’t been able to completely give up the pain pills, but going from 120 pills a month to just 30, for severe days is a miracle for me. I now only take the pain pills for extreme days, mostly the migraine days when I just need to quell the pain and go to sleep. Otherwise, I function at a level I never thought I would get back to had it not been for Cannabinoid or CBD. I’m not saying I’m back to the person I was before my injuries and illness, but I’m also not the person I was 2 years ago, walking around in a black cloud, barely functional. Cannabinoid or CBD, turned out, with the combination of the other therapies I began, to be the answer I was seeking. I can live and on good days I can even cook dinner and go on motorcycle rides with my husband, which for me is living compared to existing, which is what I was doing before.
In my personal experience I believe making canna-coconut oil (see my article Slow Cooked Cannabutter posted June 11,2017) and putting it in capsules is a better way to treat. You can get a marijuana strains that are high in CBD and low in THC, but you need all of the cannibinoids in the plant to heal.
CAUTION!! If you have a job where you are drug tested use CBD Oil with little to no THC! THC will show on a drug test. I have used both CBD Oil and Canna-Coconut Oil and the Canna Oil works much better, although CBD Oil did help me when I lived in a none legal state and could not get medical marijuana.
