The Power of Healing with Cannabis (Cancer)

Cannabis (aka Marijuana) is on the rise all over the world and that is a good thing, a
very good thing! Because cannabis is coming out of the shadows of dangerous drug and into the light of its possible medical benefits. As more studies are done to prove its medicinal benefits, the more it’s being proven it really is a miracle medicine. The more science proves cannabis’s medical potential, the more excepted it will become. In my own experience I am finding this to be true. The Chronic conditions I suffer with has brought more than one concerned family member or friend with the suggestion, “have you thought about trying medical marijuana?”! At times this has made my jaw hit the floor! This question has come, more than once, from someone I would have never expected it from. And to be honest if you met me on the street you would never suspect me to be a medical marijuana user. As I was told once, “Well, you don’t fit the profile”. What that means exactly, I’m not what most people think of as a “stoner”.

Despite the progress we’ve made, there are still stigmas that will continue to be hard to change. But that’s okay, we’ve come so far, we can persevere! One of the number one misconceptions I often here is smoking marijuana causes lung cancer. Even when doing research for this article I got one of my Natural Health books I often refer to for research, the small blurb she had on cannabis was only to say you should never use cannabis because the negative effects far outweigh the benefits. I just rolled my eyes and put that book away! Of course, that books first copyright was 1985 and last revised in 2004. See told you, “I don’t fit the profile”, because that book was one of my college texts. However, I am closer to the later version, than the first edition.

As I was saying, Lung Cancer, one of the biggest myths, smoking marijuana has the same pathogens and the same impact on the lungs that cigarette smoking does. Well, in 2006 the American Thoracic Society presented the results of their study that showed there was NO LINK BETWEEN SMOKING MARIJUANA AND LUNG CANCER. They even added the heaviest of marijuana smokers had no increase in risk of developing lung cancer.

As more research has been done and is continually being done on the link between cannabis and cancer prevention, science is continually proving that marijuana is a powerful cancer fighter. It has been shown repeatedly that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive chemical in marijuana destroys malignant cancer cell and prohibits their growth in many patients. Researchers have known for many years the other cannabinol (CBD), in marijuana process many beneficial substances that aid in the prevention and treatment of cancer. CBD does not have the psychoactive effect that THC does, but is a potent anti-cancer agent. CBD has the ability to interfere with the cellular communication in tumors and deprogram them.

Studies have also shown cannabis has the ability to slow tumor growth and aid in the prevention of cancers of the breast, lungs, and brain. The combined effect of CBD and THC on numerous types of cancer is even more striking. Researchers have confirmed the most potent effects against tumor growth occur when THC and CBD are combined. These studies are showing evidence the two cannabinoids combined prove to be a powerful “herbal chemo” agents.

As society continues to slowly change their views of marijuana and as we continue to study it’s healing benefits, it can only get better. Minds are being changed daily and the more knowledge science provides us the better. More than half the states in the US have some legalization of medical marijuana and the fight goes on in the others. It is my firm belief the more research disproving the myths about the negative effects of cannabis, the closer we will come to total prohibition and release the healing power of this miracle plant.
